El Tokio: History and Flavors

The foundations of El Tokio, built around the 1700s, tell a story rooted in time. This iconic place began its commercial path in 1903, becoming a reference for the community.

Until 1980, El Tokio became a meeting point for locals and visitors in San Antonio de Areco. Their delicacies, especially ice cream, were the perfect accompaniment to meetings and encounters.

In El Tokio corner, the only bus stop in town was located there, a strategic point that gathered passengers from all over the region. On Sundays, after mass, the atmosphere on the block came alive: from El Tokio to the corner of the Hotel Mitre, the inhabitants walked from one corner to the other in what they called “La Petit,” a tradition that celebrated closeness and community.

After 29 years of closure, The Tokio reopened in 2009, renewed and ready to continue writing its history.
